After spending time with the 121st Infantry during their deployment in Iraq I assigned myself to cover their departure to Afghanistan. Newsroom proposals to follow the unit to Afghanistan, along with other Georgia Army National Guard units, had been declined because of the current economy. After the incredible job the newspaper did covering the previous deployment, it made covering this departure much more personal and important to me.
