A Styrian sabre, Austria, circa 1580. Heavy, slightly curved single-edged blade, double-edged towards the point. Narrow grooves on both sides along the back, one side bears a Styrian mark, rubbed by cleaning. Lightly engraved quillons (repair on one side) with small finials and a knuckle-bow. Obverse guard plate has two heart-shaped perforations, the reverse side has a curved finger loop with a thumb ring. Leather-covered grip, rectangular pommel with a small round top nut.
