Contractors laying temporary wooden-sleepered tracks into rail depot during construction of the new Hong Kong Airport.
Hong Kong International Airport is the main airport in Hong Kong and was built on the island of Chek Lap Kok. It opened for business in 1998 and soon became one of the world's busiest airports. The building of the new airport was only a part of the Airport Core Programme, which also involved construction of new road and rail links to the airport, with associated bridges and tunnels. Pictured is the construction of a spur line to the rail depot on Chek Lap Kok Island which was levelled and reclaimed to provide space for the huge international airport.
