Sand dollar shell, close-up. The holes on the surface of the shell are pores through which the animal uses to move water into its internal water- vascular system. A sand dollar is an echinoderm closely related to the sea urchin. A key distinguishing feature of this animal is its five- fold (pentameral) symmetry.
