Jean Nicolas Corvisart (1755-1821), French doctor. Corvisart's most famous patient was the French Emperor Napoleon I (Bonaparte), who is reputed to have said: \I do not believe in medicine, but I do believe in Corvisart\". Corvisart authored a major textbook on cardiovascular disease (1806), and he also revived the ideas of Auenbrugg on percussion (tapping) of the chest to diagnose diseases. One of his students was the famous surgeon Guillaume Dupuytren. Corvisart was professor of medicine at the College de France from 1797.
