Gin distillery, historical artwork. This is the Gilbey Distillery, Chalk Farm, London, run by the brothers Walter and Alfred Gilbey. Gins produced here included 'Old Tom' and 'Cream of the Valley'. Gin is an alcoholic spirit obtained by distilling alcoholic spirits with juniper berries to impart a flavour to the spirits. The advent of the Industrial Revolution allowed increased production of alcoholic beverages such as gin. The elements seen here include boilers and a fractional distillation column. This artwork is from a book published in 1875.
