Crowds of visitors and Pratt Institute students and faculty welcome in the New Year at the school's steam generating plant

Crowds of visitors and Pratt Institute students and faculty welcome in the New Year, Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the school's steam generating plant in Brooklyn in New York. Pratt Institute is the home of the oldest steam generators in the country which are used to heat the campus and run the school's co-generating plant. The power plant is a Mechanical Engineering Landmark. As unique as the plant is, what is more unique is that every New Year's Eve, the Chief Engineer Conrad Milster connects his collection of steam whistles, including the whistle from the USS Normandy and a steam calliope and sets them all off enveloping the crowd in a fog of steam and very LOUD noise.
