Parents and children rally against New York Dept. of Education ban on PTA bake sales

Parents and children rally outside New York City Hall and the Dept. of Education on Thursday, March 18, 2010 to call for a repeal to the Schools Chancellor's regulation, A-812, which restricts the sale of baked goods from schools. Many schools rely on bake sales of home made goods to fund programs that have been affected by the severe budget cuts. In the interest of preventing obesity the regulation bans home-made foods but allows commercially produced snacks such as chips to be sold under the auspices of the Dept. of Education. (© Richard B.
