The skeleton of the Pluvialina? bears in some respects agreat resemblance to that of the Columbinop, although thedifferences are also great, especially in the form of thesternum and the length of the feet. Taking the GoldenPlover and Lapwing as types, we observe the following cha-racters. The structure generally is rather delicate, the bonesbeing slender or thin. The skull is rather large, oblong,compressed ; with the se])tum between the orbits very incom-plete, having in it two large apertures. The orbits are verylarge, incomplete below, their upper margins elevated so asto leave a deep groove between them, in which are the twonarrow curved depressions for the supraorbital glands. Theintermaxillary bones are linear, and separated from themaxillary, which are very narrow, by a vacuity extendingnearly to the end.
