Each special-work location hasa distinguishing number so that in furnishing material themanufacturers are required to mark all work with the local storekeepers secure from the general storekeeper anytrack tools and other small supplies desired, but requests forthe service of rail grinders, rail benders, portable cross-overs and the like must be made directly to the civil engi-neer. The principal portable crossover used by the com-pany is of the Pennsylvania type with adjustable leadrails for use on tracks varying from 9-ft. to 10-ft. centers
