Furnace Creek, California USA - 30 November 1984 Furnace Creek is a part of Death Valley. As its name suggests, this place is hot. Very hot. It actually holds the record for the highest recorded air temperature in the world, reaching 134 F ( C) on July 10, 1913 - although this figure is disputed. Moreover - and less disputed - a ground temperature of 201 F ( C) was recorded here on July 15, 1972; this may be the highest natural ground surface temperature ever recorded. Phew!
