After responding to "General Quarters" 12 times within 12 hours, six times of which they contacted Nazi U-boats, crew members turned to in an effort to repair damage to the ship's hull suffered when she rammed a submarine. Coast Guardsmen are shown above preparing to put a temporary cofferdam over the side to block flow of water into the Coast Guard cutter through a 12-foot rent in the hull. She is now in an East Coast port.
