Skin cancer surgery. Image 8 of 8. Gauze dressing covering a patient's eye after surgery. The patient has just undergone surgery to have a basal cell carcinoma (a type of skin cancer) excised from the lower eyelid. A skin flap was then taken from the upper eyelid to replace the lost tissue and an anti-inflammatory gel was applied to speed up healing. For a sequence showing this procedure, see images M131/752 - M131/759.
