Porter, of the UnitedStates Navy, died at Washington of heartdisease, on the 13th inst, after a longillness. He came of a race of sea-kings, andwas the son of the famous Commodore DavidPorter, who commanded the frigate Essex inthe War of 1812. His grandfather was also aCaptain Dav-id Porter whoin the earlydays of theRevo lution-ary War com-manded the61 oop gun-boat D. Por-ter the grand-eon, had beenassociatedwith the seafrom his in-fancy. In1829 he was aNaval Cadet;a few yearslater he wasserving in theold war shipConstellation, under the renowned CommodoreBiddle.
