Prize-Winning Coast Guard Artist is Pacific Invasion Veteran. Coast Guard Combat Artist Ken Riley, of Parsons, Kansas, rides landing barge towards an invasion beach in the Far Pacific. Riley, a veteran of Tarawa, the Marshalls and Saipan, was awarded the "best in the show" prize for his painting, "For Thine Is the Kingdom," exhibited in the Times-Herald's Seventh Annual Outdoor Art Fair in Washington, The 25-year-old Kansan's sketches of beach warfare have won him acclaim as one of the outstanding young artists of the war.
