Lystrosaurus feeding in a wetland area, illustration. Lystrosaurus (a therapsid) was a herbivorous burrowing animal, varying in size but typically around the size of a pig. It lived from the Late Permian to the Early Triassic, from around 255 to 250 million years ago. Therapsids, which evolved from reptiles, included the animals that later evolved into mammals.
