Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt, castle and dam Vaucluse department of Provence (south-east France).
Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. The village is nestled along the base of a long, low cliff, with the ruins of a castle above on the high end and an old windmill on the opposite end. Behind the cliffs above the village is a ravine that has been dammed (by the "barrage") to form a lovely little lake [photo 2]. The lake is formed from rainwater collected from the slopes of the Plateau de Vaucluse that rise behind the village, and was originally used for the local water supply. Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt is a village (larger, more developed and less visited by tourists than many in the vicinity) on a hillside just north of the town of Apt and south of Sault in the Luberon region of the Vaucluse department of Provence (south-east France).
