The Seed Co.,Guadaloui)e, Cal., has developed a reputation in its line not only locally but universally also. As a result the company has re- ceived and is receiving a considerable amount of ])ublicity, such as a 2-eolunm write-up in a local newspaper, the Santa Maria Vidette, under date of July 2\. In 1913 L. D. Waller and Dr. J. H. Franklin started their seed farm at Guadaloupe, beginning with thirty acres. The start was not wholly an experiment, as Mr. Waller has sj)ent a good share of his life in the seed business and Dr. Franklin was an expert seedsman. The thirty acres have increased to 500 acres at Guadaloupe and 500 acres in smaller lots between Casmalia and Morro, Cal. Sixty persons are employed and the annual pay roll amounts to more than $50,000. The growing of sweet peas is a spe- cialty of the Waller farms. There arc more than .'iOO varieties on the big place. Tliresliing begins in August and continues for two mouths. As rapidly as the seeds are threslied they are taken to the on tlie ranch, where they are redeaned by modern ma- chinery. The redeaiu^d seeds are then packed and shippe<l. The first shipment of the season's seeds this year was made Tuesday, July 18. Quantity jiroductioii is not the only aim of this jilace. There is an ex])eri- mental side to the enterprise. F
