Meteorological mast for North Hoyle Offshore Wind Farm, off coast of North Wales

North Hoyle is the UK's first major offshore wind farm, minimising impact on physical, biological and human environments. Subsea cables are used to connect the turbines together and carry the electricity to shore and to an existing substation. The power generated is transferred into the national electricity network producing green electricity for around 40,000 homes. Before, during and after construction comprehensive environmental studies have been carried out such as on ornithology or birds, marine and seabed ecology, effects of the windfarm into navigation systems such as radar and the colonisation of foundation structures beneath the sea on fish and other marine life.
