"This group of sculptures including the central Britannia figure and Mercury to her right, were made by the sculptor John Thomas in 1849. They were originally located in the Great Hall of Euston station above the door to the board room. When Euston station was re-developed in the 1960s they were moved to a position on the station platform, but in more recent years they have been stored within the National Railway Museum at York."
