The latter are taken oncontract with the Federal Government at fortycents per day. The cost of feeding prisonersduring the year was on an average centsper day, per capita. The penitentiary is notself-supporting, and appropriations are askedfor, amounting to $42,000 for 1877, and $25,- 000 for 1878. Of the former sum $15,000is wanted to complete and equip the work-shops. A convention of the
