It appears by the above that GeoflFrey de Mandevillewas in possession at the time of the Survey ; but heheld it unjustly, because it did not belong to the land ofAsgar. It seems therefore that Geoffrey had had aGrant of Asgars lands, and under pretext of that, tookpossession of Clopeham, though it had never beenAsgars. He
