1957 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing. Artist: Unknown

1957 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing. Mercedes introduced the 300SL, its most famous and dramatic post-war model in 1954. It was a road version of a successful racing car which featured a 3 litre, fuel injected engine capable of a top speed of 140 mph. The outstanding feature of the car was its 'Gullwing' doors. The driver and passenger doors were hinged in the centre of the roof and opened upwards. Production of the 300 SL Gullwing stopped in 1957 after 1400 examples had been made.
