The ladies of Lancaster advertise forsubscriptions to repair the store-house, to render it a com-fortable place for the accommodation of the several schoolsnow taught in it. Sept. 30, 1808. Nathaniel E. Snowden advertises thatthe trustees are finishing the room for the accommodationof the Latin and Greek students in the college, and that heexpects to move his school to that place in October. On September 12, 1809, Benedict J. Schipper adver-tised that on the 13th instant he would open an academyin Franklin College, permission being granted by thetrustees. Where he came from we do not know; butfrom his minute acquaintance with the German language. M y^ f it may be presumed that he was a native of many years Professor Schipper not only taughtGreek and Latin, but had general charge of the groundsand buildings. In 1821 the Board purchased a higharm-chair for his recitation-room, and in 1823 he wasreimbursed for sundry repairs made to the college-build-ing.
