The alternating-current units at the Pratt Street stationat the time of the fire comprised four 3000-hp Mcintosh &Seymour vertical cross-compound engines direct connectedto 2000-kw Westinghouse alternators. As stated, none ofthis machinery was injured. In December, 1904, a fifth unitof the same size was placed in operation, and there is nowbeing installed a sixth unit comprising a 7500-hp Mcintosh & ELECTRICFEBRUARY, 1904. Aspreviously stated, the main generating station is located onPratt Street on tide water. Previous to the fire, this plantconsisted of two engine rooms with a double-deck boilerroom between. One of the engine rooms contained the di-rect-current generating machinery, and the other the altcr- & Seymour vertical-horizontal cross-compound engine directconnected to a 5000-kw Westinghouse alternator. These units comprise all of the generating machinery nowat Pratt Street, and give a rated capacity of 30,000 hp andan overload capacity in the aggregate of 40,000 hp in power-generating apparatus. 628 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL.
