That the chiefwork of the club lies not insecuring privilegesfor its members but incultivating a demandfor good roads and showing how they may begot and maintained was emphasixed by almostevery speaker, and was the predominant noteof the evening. The first annual dinner andsmoker of the Automobile Club of Californiaundoubtedly made many friends for the motor-car and its LA SIESTA.
