The five-roof domes of Basilica di San Marco (St Mark's Basilica), a cathedral church is one of Venice’s most prominent landmarks located on Piazza San Marco, (Saint Mark’s Square) in Venice in the Veneto region of northern Italy. The central dome is approximately 13 meters in diameter and has 16 windows, representing the ascension of Christ into heaven following his resurrection. Although the iconography of the dome is partially of Western influence, the dome is of Byzantine design, signifying Venice’s powerful, profitable relationship with the Eastern Roman Empire.
