Both living, had three children. 26 HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF THE No. John Hester, Jr. John Hester, Jr., being the third generation, was thesecond son of John Hester, Sr. He was born May 23, 1791,in Greene county, Pa. In 1818 he was married to HannahMiller; after her death, which occurred in 1827, he marriedher sister, Elizabeth Miller. During the war of 1812, his older brother, Martin, whowas married and had a family of small children to be cared for,was drafted. John, who was unmarried at that time, verykindly volunteered to go in his stead. He was with the armywhen they cut the road from Fremont, O., to Fort Meigs,(Perrysburg) O., through very heavy timber, in the winterseason. They had to work much of the time in the waterknee deep. He and his family lived in Columbiana county, O.,till about 1857, when they removed to Williams county, wherehe lived and died in 1879, aged 88. About 1866 he became en-tirely blind.
