Those corporations alone produce more than three-fourths of the State's total lumber. Major lumber producers are important nationally as well as within Montana. Louisiana-Pacific, currently the nation's leading lumber producer, in 1973 acquired several wood products firms in Montana. In the aggregate, Montana lands contribute about one-fourth of the total United States production of these corporate giants (table 2)..
