Kingsday King's Day Kings Day Amsterdam crowds on the Prinsengracht Canal. Underneath the Westertoren, icon of the city.

On Koninginnedag, Queensday, the Queen's birthday everyone seems to be dressed up in orange in Amsterdam. The Canal Parade through the canals especially here on the Prinsengracht Canal is big fun and draws hundreds of boats and tens of thousands of onlookers. The crowd can at times come to a complete stand still. Both the posh merchant's houses and the 17th century warehouses have mostly been converted and divided up into apartments. It's inhabitants can be seen looking out onto the visiting crowds. Signs on the converted warehouses on the right indicate that at least two are for sale. Indeed some Amsterdam inner city canal dwellers have filed complaints against the City Council about allowing too many such festivities on their doorstep
