The site covers some 170 hectares and the site was worked, on and off, for 100 initial rush, for the alluvial gold, was from 1862-1864. Once that rush was over dredging operations took over to take advantage of the east to access gold deposits. At one time more than 150 dredges were working the site, with varying degrees of success. One of the most profitable dredges was thge Lady Molyneux that recovered 1234 oz of gold in just one week!
