With the exception of a few hot days at the beginning oftlie month, the temperatures ranged slightly below normaluntil near its close wlieu they were slightly above, with ahumid warmth that stimulated growth of vegetation. Theweather was at no time suiBciently cold to injure field crops,and was on the whole quite favorable for their development,which made rapid progress. The rainfall was in places copious, and generally beneficial,although there were regions where the ground was too drydaring the greater portion of the month for fall plowing, andfor growing crops. The eastern half of the State had theleast precipitation, although precipitation was quite unevenly
