The Pomier Caves are a series of 55 caves north of San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic. They contain over 6000 drawings, pictographs, and petroglyphs of the Pre-Columbian Taino, Caribe, and Igneri cutlures. It is the largest oncentration of ancient rock art in all the Caribbean Basin. Some of the paintings are up to 2000 years old. Cave Number 1 contains 590 painted figures of animals, birds, fish, reptiles and people. The paint was a mixture of charcoal and animal fat.
