A 19th century illustration showing ancient Bowl, Long & twin British Barrows (Burial Mounds or Tumuli). These varied in size enormously ranging from single burials to mass graves. Most contained grave goods and even horses and other animals. They occur throughout the world. They are sometimes called Hows or Howes indicating possibly that dead individuals were buried in their own makeshift home before it was covered in soil and stones.
