He wasmarried November 14, 1872, to Mrs. Ruth Avery;they have one daughter : Mary Elizabeth Avery, whomarried Abner E. Claflin, of Providence, November12, 1895. COGGESHALL, Chandler Hall, farmer, Bris-tol, was born in Bristol, son of Wilbour B. andEliza J. (Coggeshall) Coggeshall. He is descended 1893, being on various important committees andnow a member of the Finance Committee. Inpolitics he is a Republican. He is not C. H. COGGESHALL. from an old and honored Rhode Island family,his ancestor, John Coggeshall, having been thefirst President of the Colony of Rhode Island. Hereceived his early education in the public schoolsof Bristol, and graduated from the high school, andsubsequently from Schofields Commercial Collegeof Providence. He has since successfully followedagricultural pursuits in Bristol. He has taken anactive part in public affairs. He has been a memberof the School Committee since 1884. He has beena member of the Board of Managers of the RhodeIsland College of Agricultural and Mechanic Artssince its establishment and is now President of thatbody. He was a Representative from his nativetown in the General Assembly for seven vears from1883 to 1890, and has served as State Senator since CARPENTER, Phanuel Bishop, physician, wasborn in Seekonk, Mass., January 8, 1832, son of Joband Eliza (Bishop) Carpenter. He is the de-scendant of William Carpenter, one of threebrothers, who left England
