Miss Margaret Hunter(now Mrs. Robert H. Kirk), was the firstpresident. Miss Minnie Macpherson was itsleader for a number of years. Suggested by Dr. William M. Paden, andfinancially assisted by Mr. Robert C. Ogden,the Boys Brigade became one ofBOYS the organizations of the churchBRIGADE in April, 1895, with a member-ship of twenty-five. George A. Gow wasmade major, a position he still fills. It wouldbe a difficult matter to match his faithfulnessand devotion. Not only have the youthfulsoldiers received training in military move-ments, but—which is the vital thing in allorganizations connected with church work—they have been well taught in other recitation of Scripture and other devo-tional exercises, are important features at everydrill. Many boys have been induced to attendSunday-school, and a number of the membershave united with the church. Miss Minnie has endeared herself to all the boys byher faithful work at the organ. Every member of the Brigade takes thefollowing pledge: I promise and pledge, that so long as I ama member of the Boys Brigade, I will not usetobacco, nor intoxicating liquor, in any form
