He has been engaged in thebusiness of fire insurance since he was eighteenyears of age, and has lived in Putnam during the last fourteen years. He has held various localoffices, including that of Warden of the PutnamFire District, and is Chief Engineer of the FireDepartment of that place; he also has beenelected to the office of Justice of the Peace. Hereceived a common-school and academic educa-tion. In politics he is a staunch Republican, andrecognized the present session as a prominentmember. He has been assigned to the chairman-ship, this session, of the very important Com-mittee on 153
