Shell broadly umbilicate, depressed; subglobose, thin, shining, translucent, whitish, irregularly striated ; su- ture moderately impressed; whorls 5.}—6, rather convex, the last more convex, not descending; umbilicus widely excavated externally, pervious; aperture roundly lu- nate ; peristome simple, somewhat thickened, often rose-colored, the columellar margin slightly reflected. Diam., major 6, min. 5,—5^ ; Alt. fei'e 3 mill. Z. pbtropMliM. Habitat.—The Cliffs, Knoxville, Tennessee, found with Z. Wlieatleyi, Mrs. Geo. Andrews. Remarlc}^.—This sjiecies is, in general form, nearly allied to Z. arboreus, but the color is different, the strife are more de- veloped, and the itmbilicus is much wider. My friend, Mi-. W. Gr. Binney, examined the dentition of Z. j^etrojMlus, and favored me with notes on the subject. He found the teeth 15—1—15, with two jDcrfect laterals, one only on each side. Z. viridulus has the same number of laterals, but many more marginals.
