Curiosity rover's wheels. This view shows the three left-hand wheels of NASA's Mars rover Curiosity. In the background is the lower slope of Mount Sharp. This image was obtained on 9 September 2012 during the rover's 34th Martian day (sol). Image data from the rover's Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI). MAHLI is located in the turret of tools at the end of Curiosity's robotic arm. MAHLI will be used to obtain close-up, high-resolution views of rocks and soil, but can also be used to check the rover itself. Curiosity, the rover for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, landed in the Gale Crater on Mars on 6 August 2012.
