The American Car Company, of St. Louis, recently deliveredto the Memphis Street Railway twelve closed cars like the oneshown in the engraving. The railway company operates allthe lines in Memphis, upwards of 100 miles of track in all, andemploys about 200 cars. The city is the largest in the State,. The car interiors are finished in cherry, with decorated maplethree-ply veneer ceilings, which, with the spring cane uphol-stered longitudinal seats, give a bright and attractive appear-ance. As the streets of Memphis through which the cars runare narrow in places and there is a liability of vehicles collid-ing with the cars, six-bar window guards are used to protectpassengers when the windows are lowered.
