Pre dawn Bamburgh Castle and Bamburgh Beach in Northumberland

Bamburgh Castle on the Northumberland coast in North East England. Believed to have been a fortified site since at least fifth century. But some current parts of the present castle are Norman. The Keep dates from the reign of Henry II. During the Wars of the Roses the castle was the first English castle to be defeated by artillery. The site was the home of the Forster family for 400 years until 1700 when it was sold to the Bishop of Durham. The castle was purchased and substantially restored by the industrialist Lord Armstrong in the 19th Century
