Alexander was awarethat it would be impossilile for him to com-plete his causeway, or take the city so longas the Tyrians remained masters of the he collected his few ships to-gether, and having received other vesselsfrom his allies, he came to anchor with hiswhole fleet along the shore near the mole,which liis soldiers were rebuilding, where hisgalleys rode in safety. On the sideof the city which lay toward the causeway,they erected stone towers of great height,and of a proportionate breadth.
