The novice medal, donated by the Pacific Tournameot Associationand won on the 30th by Henry Bettin, of the Encinal Guu Club, wil,be shot for again on September 27th at the Golden Gate Gun Clubstournament at the Pacific Tournament Associations grounds at Ala-meda JuDction. The conditions will be at 50 straightaway birds,competition open only to those who shot in the last race for themedal. This medal must be won twice, not necessarily consecutively-to become the personal property of the Shooting for Market. A well-known citizen of Sacramentp, who works at his trade duringthe spring, summer and fall months, but puts in the midwinter atshooting for the market, takes exception to a reference recently madein the columns of the Record Union to a class of men who wouldshoot game in and out of season, if onlvthey could thereby pnt a fewdollars in their pockets and avoid prosecution. The sporting editor replies as follows : This gentleman makes hemistake of assuming that the criticism was intended for all markethunters. Like the gentleman referred to, there are many men shoot-ing for the market who are sportsmen at heart and would not violatethe game laws, though they might, from a selfish standpoint, feelthat such laws were not just what thev should be.
