THE ROYAL NAVY DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR - A drifter waiting alongside the AUTOCARRIER to take crews back to their ships in Scapa Flow. The cross-channel steamer AUTOCARRIER, which used to transport the cars of holiday makers to and from France before the Second World War, was now acting as a recreation ship for the crews of the many Home Fleet Auxiliary vessels which attended to the servicing needs of the Royal Navy. It is was the first and only one of its kind, and for thousands of Royal Navy men it means beer and cinema once a week. , Autocarrier
