Injet condensing the amount of water re-quired is somewhat reduced, the usualallowance being about 24 to 1 with coldwater for ordinary vacua. The capacity of an air pump dependsentirely upon the conditions, and varieswith the different temperatures of thecirculating water available, length ofexhaust line and liability to air leaks, and it is difficult to give any fixed rulefor determining it. The average allow-ance is, however, that the air pumpsshould displace twenty-four times thevolume of the water it discharges. With steam turbines the temperaturemust be so low and the volume of air inthe condenser is so many times that atno
