When the airpressure in the reservoir drops slightly, and consequently the pressureabove the diaphragm 1 is reduced, the regulating spring 2 forcesthe diaphragm upward, which also moves the slide valve 3 and con-nects the port B with the exhaust port D. Air from the chamber Cis now exhausted into the atmosphere; the piston 4 moves downwardand closes the switch in the motor circuit; and the pump starts.
