SEM - Pseudomonas putida

A coloured scanning electron micrograph SEM) of Pseudomonas putida, a gram-negative, aerobic, fluorescent bacterium with multitrichous flagella. Like other pseudomonads it thrives in moist environments. Ps. putida is a unique soil bacterium which can resist adverse effects of organic solvents and is, in fact, capable of decontaminating soil contaminated with such solvents including toluene and paints. It is also a pesticidal microorganism but it can infect humans with weakened immunity and cause septicemia and septic arthritis.
