His operation is much moredifficult, and offers more danger of closure of the os, and Ican not see that it presents any advantages over amputation. The use of injections of diluted Solu. Iodine into thesubstance of the tissues of the cervix has been recommendedas efficacious in promoting absorption and softening of theinduration—for this purpose a syringe, similar to the ordi-nary hypodermic, is used, larger in size, with tubes aboutthree inches long. (See Fig. 18.). Fig. No. 18.—Syringe for Injecting Fibroids. In my experience this treatment is only applicable tocases which are extremely free from sensibility, as otherwiseit produces great pain. In cases which have withstood the 172 EATON ON DISEASES OF WOMEN. use of remedies and local treatment, the injections may be made at intervals of three days (not using them, however, very near to the menstrual period), making about three punctures and injections at each treatment, throwing in about twenty drops into each puncture, using the following prescriptions : Ify.—Iodine Ees., grs. x. He advises its use also in cases ofchronic cervicitis, which would indicate that he would notrestrict its use as much as has been, in
