Street perspective. Mongdang House (Extreme Small House), Seoul, Korea, South. Architect: AnL Studio, 2012.

The condition of the site (located Western part of old City Center, called Jongro) is a very small and unusual place, 6m wide, limitation in mind, the house was designed for taking the maximum volume with vertically accumulated 3 rooms with a small skip floor space for a library. Utilizing the small entrance garden, the library between 1st and 2nd floor, the terrace, the irregular windows, the skylight and circular stairs, the space stays open to the view. The library space is connecting two spaces not only optically but also acoustically. Every window was designed to frame the great landscape in a different position with different size. The mass design was to assimilate with natural surroundings. Lastly, Mongdang has multiple meanings for “mino” as well as “Dreaming House” in Korea.
