General colour purplish black, the back being of a velvety appearance, and slightly glossed with metaUic steel-black ; head and feathers of the neck (the latter hackled) steel-black, with a slight tinge of greenish on the metallic portion of the neck-hackles ; wings metallic steel-green, as also the outer webs of the scapulars, which resemble the secondary quills; primaries black, washed ex- ternally with greenish; upper tail-covcrts black, glossed with steel- green ; tail black, washed with metallic steel-green on the outer webs ; lores, feathers round the eye, and sides of face blue-black ; rest of under surface purj^lish black, the under tail-coverts slightly washed with steel-green ; the feathers of the throat and breast very indistinctly spangled with tips of metallic steel-grech ; under wing- coverts black, glossed with steel-green, and aU tipped with a white spot; bill and feet black ; iris red. Total length 15 inches, culmen 1-5, wing 6-95, tail 7*6, tarstis 1'15. Ohs. Very like C. densa of Timor, but purplish black without the green shade. These differences are apparent, on comparing speci- mens, on the neck-hackles, wings, and upper tail-coverts, which have an oily green shade in C. densa. Hah. Ke Islands and Goram. a. Ad. sk.
